Massage therapist charged with sexual assault in Newmarket

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section, have charged a 55- year-old massage therapist in connection with a sexual assault in the Town of Newmarket.

On Saturday, August 22, 2020, police began an investigation after a victim came forward to report a sexual assault. On Friday July 31, 2020, the victim attended a spa on Main Street south, in the Town of Newmarket, for a scheduled appointment with a registered massage therapist. The victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted during the session.

On September 8, 2020, the accused was arrested and charges were laid. Investigators want to ensure that there are no further victims. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Michel SARKIS, 55, of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville has been charged with Sexual Assault.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
