Markham woman charged in January fatal collision

A 59-year-old Markham woman has been arrested in the two-vehicle collision in which a 75-year-old woman was killed in Markham last January.

Joanne Chan was charged with dangerous driving causing death on March 29, York Regional Police said in a news release.

On Saturday, Jan. 14 at about 2:25 p.m., officers responded to a report of collision at Bur Oak Avenue and McCowan Road between a blue Subaru SUV and a grey Hyundai Elantra.

The 45-year-old male driver and 75-year-old female passenger of the Hyundai were transported to hospital with serious injuries. The passenger died later that day in hospital.

The driver of the Subaru was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Chan is to appear in court on Thursday, May 4, 2023.
