Markham man faces over 100 charges for break-and-enter, mailbox thefts

Investigators with the #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a 22-year-old man with more than 100 criminal offences in relation to a residential break-and-enter, vehicle entries and theft of mail occurrences in the City of Markham.

The investigation began on April 6, 2019 when a residential break and enter was reported to police that had occurred at a home on Walkerville Road, which is in the area of Cornell Park Avenue and Bur Oak Avenue.

The suspect was described as being male, Asian, 5’6” and was wearing dark clothing. As the investigation progressed, officers linked a suspect with the same physical characteristics to other criminal offences that had occurred in the area.

On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, officers responded to the same neighborhood for a report that two community mailboxes had been pried open and that mail had been stolen.

Investigators were able to determine that the suspect involved in the theft of mail was the same suspect involved in the residential break and enters. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., the suspect was arrested and later that same day a search warrant was executed at his residence on Cornell Park Avenue.

  • Theft Under $5,000

Mr. Ma has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on April 29, 2019.
