York Regional Police have laid additional charges against a man already charged with 29 counts of breaking and entering in June.

James Hastings, 33, of no fixed address, now faces charges for 37 counts of breaking and entering in connection with commercial break-ins in Newmarket, police said in a news release.

Between July 6 and 12, police responded to eight more commercial break-ins in Newmarket and through investigation, Hasting was identified as the suspect, according to police.

In June, York Regional Police received multiple reports of break-ins to businesses where the suspect would typically break into restaurants by smashing glass and stealing various valuables.

Hastings was initially arrested on June 20 in Newmarket and charged with 29 counts of breaking and entering before being charged with eight additional counts of breaking and entering, as well as possession of break and enter instruments, possession of suspected cocaine, and two counts of failing to comply with court order, police said.

At the time of these offences, he was before the courts on unrelated charges and bound by a court order.
