UPDATE: Man rushed to hospital after being found badly injured in Newmarket parking lot

Updated, Sunday, Jan. 31 at noon:  A man in his early 40s is in hospital after being found with serious injuries at the York Town Square parking lot on the corner of Yonge Street and Davis Drive in Newmarket early Sunday morning.

According to York Regional Police, officers responded to a call asking for a welfare check on a man behaving unusually at around 12:30 a.m.

When they arrived, they found a man with serious injuries. He was transported to an unspecified Toronto hospital. The intersection of Yonge and Davis Dr. was closed in all directions while the scene was investigated, and was reopened to traffic around 6 a.m.

At this point, investigators do not believe the man's injuries were the result of an assault. Anyone who was in the area of the parking lot and may have seen what happened are asked to contact the York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7171.
