Impaired, weapons charges laid after driver hits police cruiser

Handgun, ammunition, cash seized during traffic stop in Vaughan

A 29-year-old Toronto faces multiple charges after York Regional Police responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver in Vaughan early Thursday.

Officers seized a firearm, loaded magazine and "large amount of cash" from the vehicle after the driver of a black Infiniti QX near Rivermede Road and Bowes Road was arrested Thursday, March 30 at approximately 3:15 a.m., police said in a news release.

Officers on patrol located and stopped the vehicle in a parking lot, where the suspect attempted to drive away and struck one of the cruisers before being contained, police said.

Deh Jaughn Campbell of Toronto is charged with 12 criminal offences, including impaired operation, blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of firearm while prohibited, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, along with other firearm-related offences, police said.
