York Regional Police has seized a firearm and drugs in connection with an investigation involving a suspicious vehicle parked in a residential neighbourhood in the City of Markham where two occupants were found asleep.

On Monday, May 30, 2022 around 10:40 p.m., police were called to the area of Apollo Road and Fonda Road for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When officers arrived they located a male and a female occupant sleeping inside the vehicle.

Through the investigation, police located marijuana in the vehicle near the driver and passenger. The two occupants were searched, along with the vehicle. Police located a handgun in a bag accessible to both occupants, along with ammunition, a gun silencer, body armour, masks, a machete, marijuana and alcohol.

On May 31, 2022, officers executed a search warrant at a Markham residence connected to the investigation and a quantity of ammunition was located.

    •    Possession of a weapon
    •    Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
    •    Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition x2
    •    Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
    •    Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
    •    Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
    •    Have care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

    •    Kameesha Kamalanathan, 24 years, of Markham
Charges include:
