Georgina man arrested in attempted robbery at convenience store

Police say the suspect entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money, then fled on foot empty-handed

Investigators with the York Regional Police #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have laid charges in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store in Georgina.

On Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, at approximately 6:35 p.m., police responded to a convenience store located on Dalton Road, south of Black River Road, for a report of an attempted robbery.

Officers learned that the suspect entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money. The suspect fled on foot prior to obtaining anything.

The suspect was identified, and on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, officers executed a search warrant at his residence where he was arrested.

As a result, Dane Hall, 37, of the Town of Georgina, was charged with: 

  • Robbery with a firearm
  • Use of firearm during commission of an indictable offence
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon or prohibited device or ammunition
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of opioid
  • Fail to comply with undertaking

Investigators are seeking witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious in the area or anyone who may have dashcam or video surveillance footage in the area at the time.
