York Regional Police have charged a 27-year-old man from the City of Toronto after concerned citizens called 911 to report a suspected impaired driver in the City of Richmond Hill.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, shortly after 8:30 p.m., police received 911 calls from concerned citizens who reported seeing a suspected impaired driver in the area of Valleymede Drive and Redstone Road. The callers advised that the car was all over the road, driving with the trunk open and repeatedly striking the curb causing the bumper to fall off.
When officers arrived they saw that the front tire was completely blown out and the vehicle had been driving on the rim. The suspect driver was showing signs of being impaired. Inside the vehicle, police could see cannabis and observed a plastic cup filled with what appeared to be alcohol. The driver was placed under arrest and failed a test carried out by drug recognition officer. It is believed that the accused was under the influence of methamphetamine and fentanyl.

- Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
- Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
So far this year, there have been more than 900 calls to 911 to report suspected impaired drivers. If you see dangerous driving on the road that could jeopardize the safety of motorists and pedestrians, you are encouraged to call 911 immediately.
York Regional Police continues to remind residents that the safest amount of alcohol or drugs to consume before you drive is zero.
