Aurora man convicted of coffee shop robbery 9 years later

A DNA databank hit of a fingerprint from the scene led to the 2017 arrest in the armed robbery of a Bradford Country Style Donuts in 2011

A 27-year-old Aurora man has been convicted of a robbery nine years ago at a Bradford coffee shop.

On Nov. 7, 2011, around 1:00 a.m., a masked suspect brandished a handgun and robbed an employee of cash in the till at the Country Style Donuts on Holland Street West. Forensic evidence was recovered at the scene including DNA and fingerprints.

In the spring of 2017, South Simcoe Police Service was notified of a crime scene hit from the National DNA Databank. Followup completed by the South Simcoe Police Service Forensic Identification Unit matched a fingerprint from the scene to the same suspect.

On Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, Kevin Janeiro of Aurora was arrested and charged in connection with the robbery.

In Bradford court on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, Justice Enno Meijers found Janeiro guilty of robbery.

Janeiro will be sentenced in Bradford court on April 21, 2020.
