An Aurora man has been charged after the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl at a private residence in the town.

The girl reported she was inappropriately touched after she went to a home in the area of a Laurentide Avenue and Aurora Heights Drive on Jan. 11. A group of teens had gone to the home, which police said is the suspect's residence, to socialize.

On Jan. 13, police arrested and charged Darryl Fletcher, 43, of Aurora with sexual assault and sexual interference of a person under 16.

He will appear in the Newmarket court on Feb. 9.

Sexual assault is any non-consensual touching of a sexual manner, York Regional Police said. It encourages anyone who feels they may have been a victim to come forward and report the incident. There is no statute of limitations on these offences and offenders can be prosecuted long after the fact.

If they are safe and able to do so, victims can make a report online. Victims can also seek support from York Region Victim Services or the Women’s Support Network, even if they are not ready to report.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the crimes against persons unit at YRP's #1 District criminal investigations bureau. You can call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7141 or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips or online
