Police are investigating an arson at a community centre in Markham.
At about 10 p.m. Thursday, York Regional Police responded to a report of a fire at a community centre near Ninth Line and 14th Avenue. Markham firefighters were already on scene and had extinguished the small fire in the building.
Police learned a window had been smashed and an accelerant was used to ignite the fire, which was contained to one area, police said in a news release. The fire caused extensive damage to floorboards.
Investigators don’t know when the fire started but believe it happened after a meeting that ended at about 9:15 p.m. No one was injured.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
