60 charges laid against 3 Chilean men in GTA break-and-enters

Police have released photographs of stolen items that have been recovered and are asking victims of residential break-and-enters to review them

York Regional Police have charged three men have been charged with breaking into more than 25 residences across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). 

The York Regional Police Integrated Property Crime Task Force began a residential break-and-enter investigation in July 2019. Collaboration with break-and-enter investigators at #1, #2, #4 and #5 Districts, as well as investigators with Peel Regional Police, the Halton Regional Police Service, the Toronto Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police and the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) was crucial in the success of the investigation. Over the following months, evidence was gathered in multiple incidents and on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, three suspects were placed under arrest by investigators. 

As part of the investigation, search warrants were executed on one accused’s vehicle and place of temporary residence. A number of handbags and jewelry were seized, along with evidence linking the accused to the break-and-enters.

• Camilo Andres AREVELO ACEVEDO, 33, Chile 

• Roberto LARA GARCIA, 31, Chile 

• Pedro Jesus HERRERA RIQUELME, 35, Chile 

Charges Include: 

• Break and Enter 

• Possession of Break and Enter Instruments 

• Conspiracy to Commit and Indictable Offence 

More than 60 criminal charges have been laid on these three accused. CBSA and York Regional Police continue to work in partnership to ensure all relevant immigration issues are resolved.
