3 Markham residents charged in $175K organized retail theft

York Regional Police believe accused have targeted other businesses in province

Three people have been charged in what police are calling organized retail crime thefts in Markham.

York Regional Police launched an investigation in August following a large-scale theft of cosmetics from a Markham business. Three suspects were identified and police recovered $150,000 worth of cosmetics and other personal care items. They also recovered high-end clothing believed to be valued at $25,000.

Facing charges are Ionut Bacan, 30, Bianca Bascracea, 24, and Denis-Andreea Dumitrache, 32, all of Markham. They have been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and trafficking in property obtained by crime.

Police believe the accused “have been active throughout Ontario and that there are unreported thefts,” according to a news release.

The investigation is ongoing.
