2 Richmond Hill women arrested in $40K immigration scam

A Richmond Hill man is also linked to the scam targeting the Iranian-Canadian community, York Regional Police say

Two women from Richmond Hill are charged with fraud and a Richmond Hill man is wanted in connection with an immigration scam in which victims have been defrauded of more than $40,000, York Regional Police say.

Police began investigating in 2022 after a complainant reported two individuals had committed fraud using their company name. Investigators learned three suspects offered visa and immigration services to two victims from Markham.

The victims had paid more than $40,000 for visa assistance for relatives to come to Canada but did not receive the services, police said.

The Iranian-Canadian community was targeted, police said, and they believe there are more victims who have yet to come forward. The photographs of the accused are being released to assist with the investigation.

Bahareh Attarbashi, 45, and Akramossadat Nasseri, 60, are charged with defrauding the public over $5,000, conspiracy to commit fraud over $5,000, participation in criminal organization and utter forged document (Nasseri only.)

Aliasghar Aminian, 65, is wanted by police.
