16-year-old among 3 charged in armed robbery of Richmond Hill phone shop

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged three people following an armed robbery at a mobile phone store in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, shortly after 2 p.m., York Regional Police were called to a mobile phone store in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive East and Bayview Avenue for a report of a robbery.

When officers arrived, they located store employees who were not physically injured. Investigators believe that three men armed with knives and their faces masked entered the store, grabbed the employees and restrained them using zip ties. The suspects demanded mobile phones and employees complied. The suspects fled with a quantity of phones and fled the area in a silver vehicle.

Shortly after 3 p.m., investigators located the vehicle and three suspects in the area of Islington Avenue and Elmhurst Drive in the City of Toronto, where they were placed under arrest.

Charged:

  • 16-year-old male youth, City of Toronto
  • Anthony MitchellI, 18, City of Vaughan
  • Yasir Mohamed, 23, City of Toronto

Charges:

  • Robbery with a weapon
  • Disguise with intent
