With many residents struggling to to make ends meet right now, often basic personal hygiene necessities are hard to come by.

Throughout March, Girls Inc. of York Region is holding a drive to collect personal hygiene supplies, especially for program participants who are currently experiencing economic challenges.

"We know the importance of personal hygiene supplies for all people, but especially young girls. Without basic necessities like shampoo, conditioner, soap, sanitary pads and tampons, and oral hygiene items, girls aren't able to attend school, extracurriculars, socialize with friends or thrive," the Newmarket-based non-profit youth organization said.

"We're asking our GIYR community to help us help families receiving subsidy and their girls by donating much needed personal hygiene products so that all girls have access to basic necessities can be strong, smart and bold."

Required items include:

  • toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss
  • shampoo and conditioner
  • body wash, soap and bathing accessories
  • face and body lotions
  • sanitary pads and tampons
  • make-up
  • deodorant
  • cotton swabs
  • nail products

For more information or to pledge a hygiene product donation, email [email protected] or call 905-830-0076.

Girls Incorporated of York Region is dedicated to empowering girls ages six to 18 to seek the highest quality of life possible by offering programs that give them the opportunity to explore topics and activities in a safe, inclusive environment.
