About 58,000 new appointments for COVID-19 vaccines will be available at York Region clinics as of tomorrow morning.

On Tuesday, July 13 at 8 a.m., eligible individuals aged 12 and older who live, work or go to school in York Region can book first and second dose appointments, or rebook an earlier second dose appointment, for available mRNA vaccines, according to York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

However, the public health unit announced earlier today that appointments will no longer be required for first dose appointments at most clinics, including Ray Twinney Recreation Complex on Eagle Street in Newmarket.

New appointments can be booked online or by telephone by visiting york.ca/COVID19Vaccine or by calling Access York at 1-877-464-9675.

Appointments continue to be required for the Emily Carr Secondary School drive-thru clinic in Vaughan, which will operate from Sunday to Wednesday until Aug. 18.

"Residents are reminded that if the vaccine you received for your first dose is not available at your second dose appointment, it is recommended you receive the mRNA that is available rather than delaying your second dose," Casey said.

Residents with questions about COVID-19 vaccines can call York Region’s Health Connection at 1-800-361-5653 to speak with a public health nurse, he added.
