As of today, July 12, residents of York Region who haven’t yet received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine can get one without an appointment.
The region is moving to a walk-in clinic model for anyone 12 and older who lives, works or goes to school in York Region to get their first dose.
Walk-ins are now being accepted at most clinics run by York Region Public Health, including the one at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex in Newmarket.
However, appointments are still needed for second doses across the region and they can be booked through the online system.
Due to a shortage of Pfizer doses, anyone aged 18 and older will receive Moderna for their first dose. For second doses, individuals will receive either mRNA vaccine based on availability, according to York Region.
First dose walk-ins will now be accepted at the following locations:
- Aaniin Community Centre in Markham
- Georgina Ice Palace in Georgina
- Ray Twinney in Newmarket
- Richmond Green Centre in Richmond Hill
- Maple Community Centre in Vaughan
- Trisan Community Centre in the Township of King
- SoccerCity in Whitchurch-Stouffville
The Cornell Community Centre in Markham will begin accepting walk-ins for first doses as of Tuesday, July 13.
