UPDATE: York police, canine unit, search for shirtless suspect in transit assault

A man has been arrested and faces several charges, including assault of a peace officer and transportation fraud, after a York Region Transit driver was assaulted yesterday morning in Richmond Hill, York Regional Police report.

York Regional Police and its canine unit are tracking a shirtless suspect this morning in the Yonge Street and Roosevelt Drive area of Richmond Hill after a York Region transit officer was allegedly assaulted.

York police reported on Twitter at 9:21 a.m. today, Jan. 13 that a male suspect, who was wearing a only blanket over his upper body, along with blue jeans, was involved in an altercation with the York Region Viva officer. 

No injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 6-foot, 2-inches in height.

Police are in the area now, just north of High Tech Road.

York police ask you to call 911 if you see the suspect.
