What's On, Newmarket: Winter Wonderland kicks off tomorrow

Winter fun begins Friday, Nov. 30 with the Winter Wonderland lighting ceremony and fire/LED performances by Bex in Motion, along with the Gallery of Festive Trees, and upcoming nativity pageant and Tim Hortons First Night

The Town of Newmarket's Winter Wonderland opens tomorrow night, Friday, Nov. 30, with a not-to-be missed lighting ceremony and fire/LED performances by Bex in Motion at Riverwalk Commons.

The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m, with the lighting ceremony taking place at 7 p.m.

Bex in Motion is Rebecca Zelewicz, a professional hula hoop entertainer with acrobatic flair. Bex is a masterful performer in multi-hoop tricks, fire and LED entertainment. The performances are at 7:15 and 8 p.m.

Free beverages will be offered at the Tim Hortons Truck, along with free outdoor skating and train rides, weather permitting.

Throughout the winter, from Nov. 30 to Jan. 4, 2019, you and the family can enjoy skating and the Newmarket Ice Lounge, sponsored by Jay Miller Real Estate Team. Free train rides, sponsored by Tim Hortons, are offered Friday and Saturday evenings, when weather permits.

The winter fun doesn't stop there.

You can visit the Gallery of Festive Trees until Dec. 29 at the Elman W. Campbell Museum at 134 Main St. South. Whether your style is Victorian, Edwardian, or Retro, there's something to inspire everyone. For hours, click here.

Join the Town of Newmarket and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for a Journey to Bethlehem outdoors at Fairy Lake Park Dec. 22 to 24. The free Live Nativity Pageant features a cast with live animals representing the nativity scene and birth of Jesus Christ as told in the New Testament.

The performances, which are approximately 15 minutes, run Dec. 22 and 23 at 7 and 8 p.m., and on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. only. Dress warmly, and seating on the bleachers is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

On Dec. 31, you can celebrate the end of 2018 and usher in the New Year with at the Tim Hortons First Night Newmarket, with family-friendly entertainment, free skating and swimming, inflatable bouncy castles, face painting, balloon twisting and train rides on the Tim Hortons Express from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr. The New Year's Eve countdown and fireworks take place at 9 p.m. outside, at the east entrance parking lot.
