UPDATE: Newmarket Mayor's New Year’s Levée postponed to Friday, Feb. 2 due to weather: Celebrate the start of 2024 with Mayor John Taylor and Newmarket council at Riverwalk Commons from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for free performances, skating, hot chocolate and more. 

Thunder Boogie @ OVFH: Thunder Boogie returns to the Olde Village Free House, 196 Main St., Newmarket from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Theatre Aurora presents Murder on the Orient Express, to Jan 20: See the Agatha Christie classic at Factory Theatre, 150 Henderson Dr., Aurora. Tickets $25/$23/$10 at 905-727-3669.

Little Wonder World Author Reading: Replenish General Store, 208 Main St. South, Newmarket hosts an author reading and yoga session from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets, $25, includes 10 per cent discount on in-store shopping.

Jack de Keyzer at Old Town Hall, Saturday, Jan. 13: Two-time Juno, seven-time Maple Blues and CBC's Great Canadian Blues winner Jack de Keyzer brings his high-energy blues, rock and soul music to Newmarket. Bianca Rollo Band at The OV: Join Bianco Rollo and her band for a fun night of music and dancing at Olde Village Free House, 196 Main St., Newmarket from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Connon Nurseries Winter Farmers Market: Connon Nurseries, 1870 Davis Dr. West, King, holds a farmers market with an array of vendors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until March 30.

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, snow or sun, or blizzard (unless extreme.) Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Faire une Promenade avec Le Coin de Français de Newmarket, Sunday, Jan. 21: Viens te balader avec Le Coin de Français et découvre la beauté de la langue française lors d'une promenade conviviale et enrichissante. Beautifully Human presents Bliss, Beats and Beer,  An inspirational night of meditation and drumming followed by a social afterwards from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Main Street Music Hall (Old Flame), 140 Main St. S. 26th Annual Newmarket Voice Festival, applications by Jan. 26: The Newmarket Voice Festival will be held Feb. 20 to 24, with a Concert of the Stars Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Old Town Hall in Newmarket.  Deadline for entries is Jan. 26. Categories offered in musical theatre, popular voice, classical voice, songs from the screen and more, and speech arts for performers of all ages five and up. Professional adjudicators provide written and verbal feedback to each participant. Many scholarships available (almost $13,000 awarded in 2023) and adjudicators will also recommend singers and actors for the OMFA Provincial Finals in Oakville June 10 to 15. Robbie Burns Night at the Aurora Legion, Saturday, Jan 27: An evening of bagpipes, Scottish music, and dancing beginning at 5 p.m. Enjoy haggis, roast beef, “tatties and neeps,” and Yorkshire pudding.
