Marquee Theatrical's Clue, Jan. 26 to 28: It's a dark and stormy night, and you've been invited to a very unusual dinner party.  Each of the guests has an alias, the butler offers a variety of weapons, and the host is, well... dead. So whodunnit? Join the iconic oddballs known as Scarlet, Plum, White, Green, Peacock, and Mustard as they race to find the murderer in Boddy Manor before the body count stacks up. Based on the cult classic film and the popular board game, Clue is a madcap comedy that will keep you guessing until the final twist. Presented by Marquee's Youth Drama Group Jan. 26, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m., and Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. at NewRoads Centre for the Performing Arts. For tickets, visit newtix.ca.

Theatre Aurora's Fun Home, Jan. 26 to Feb.4:  Theatre Aurora’s first production of the year is the Tony award-winning musical Fun Home, which was written as a graphic novel by Alison Bechdel and adapted as a musical on Broadway in 2015. The story is based on the author's real-life experiences. In the story, Alison is a 43-year-old lesbian cartoonist, who struggles to untangle her complex relationship with her deceased father. Moving between past and present, Alison relives an unusual childhood in the family-owned funeral home, her sexual awakening, and unanswerable questions about her father’s secret life. Performances start at 8 p.m. Actors are from Aurora, Holland Landing, Newmarket, Barrie, and Toronto. Board Gaming: Join local board game enthusiasts at Cardinal Press Espresso Bar at 200 Main St. Newmarket from 6 to 10 p.m. The games are provided and teachers are available, or you bring your games to teach others. Note from organizers: We don't tend to play a lot of 'traditional' board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Sorry! Let them know what you would like to play when you RSVP and they will bring those games.

Payadora Tango Ensemble, Great Artist Music Series: One of Toronto's most vibrant and respected chamber ensembles presents a night of Argentinian and Uruguayan tango. Storytelling with Bricks: Family Literacy Day is a celebration of how reading and literacy can play an important role in a child’s life. Newmarket Public Library celebrates by sharing the importance of reading while engaging in a fun activity with Lego from 2 to 4 p.m. Participants will be organized into teams of four to create a scene from a well-known story, or a story of their own based on a specific theme. Revolution Now! Annual Party, Saturday, Feb. 4: Revolution Now! is celebrating Black Excellence with its annual party that raises money for a scholarship for Black students in York Region. The party from 7 to 11 p.m. at Market Brewing Company will feature live music from Newmarket musician Glenn Marais and a silent auction featuring Black artists and business people. Tickets, $25.

Friends of the East Gwillimbury Library Author Event with Martha Schabas, Feb. 9: The first author event of 2023 presented by the Friends of the East Gwillimbury Library will be a virtual one – not because of health restrictions but because of past success, attracting followers from across North America. Martha Schabas released her second novel, My Face in the Light, last spring. The main character, Justine is a young woman facing a personal crisis as she grapples with her art, her identity and how to live the rest of her adult life. She will be in conversation with Lena Singh, a member of the East Gwillimbury public library board. Tickets, $15, are available at evenbrite.ca. All proceeds support East Gwillimbury Public Library.

Black History featuring Glenn Marais & the Mojo Train, Friday, Feb. 10: In this powerful and moving performance, Juno-nominated singer/songwriter Glenn Marais and his band, the Mojo Train, take you on a musical journey through the story of Black History in North America at 7 p.m. at New RoadsCentre for the Performing Arts. The Newmarket Voice Festival: The Newmarket Voice Festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary Feb. 21 to 25 with Concert of the Stars Friday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. at The Old Town Hall. Categories are musical theatre, pop, classical and speech arts for performers of all ages. Professional adjudicators provide written and verbal feedback to each participant.
