The grieving family whose two young children died in hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Vaughan Sunday are requesting privacy.

York Regional Police have shared a statement this afternoon on behalf of the family who have tragically lost their four-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.

"We are extremely traumatized by the tragic loss of our daughter and son. The past days have been extremely difficult for our family. We appreciate the prayers and thoughts of all those grieving with us."

The family is requesting privacy as they attempt to cope with the tragedy and that the names and photographs of their children not be released publicly at this time.

As well, members of the media are being requested not to film or approach anyone coming or going from the family's home.

"Thank you for your understanding and co-operation with this request."

According to police, a Go Fund Me page was not posted by any member of the family, and was not discussed with them.
