Summer is coming and Newmarket residents will get their first crack at the town’s camp offerings tomorrow morning.

Registration will open Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 a.m. Residents will be able to start signing up for more than 70 programs, including arts, science, sports and leadership.

“With a couple of months out of school, there are still lots of opportunities to learn and try new things, expand social connections, stay active and have fun,” Mayor John Taylor said in the town’s camp guide. “I’m proud of the wide range of programs our town offers local families each season.”

The programs, which are mostly offered weekly, have various fees starting at $153. Residents get a $30 discount over non-residents for fall camps. Extended care is also available before and after camps for children ages four to 12.

Those registering online must do it through the town’s new online system, Xplor. You can register at newmarket.perfectmind.com.

You can also register in person at one of the town’s customer service kiosks during regular business hours, including the town offices, Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, the Magna Centre, the Newmarket Seniors’ Meeting Place and the Recreation Youth Centre and Skate Park. You will need your Xplor account information plus program name, payment information and camper details.

Besides registered programs, the town also has a daily afternoon program for children ages four to 12, running weekdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at Stonehaven Elementary School starting July 10. The program is on a first-come, first-served basis with no pre-registration and a 30-child maximum.

The town will have a variety of specialty camps, including virtual reality, animation, cooking, filmmaking and more. Inclusion camps are also on offer for youth and adults with disabilities, with higher staff ratios of 1:3 or 1:1.

Non-residents can register beginning next week, March 1 at 6:30 a.m.

You can find more details on the program’s offering and the town’s camp guide at newmarket.ca/camps.

“Take a few minutes to flip through this guide and I’m sure you’ll find a camp, or two or three to make this a memorable summer for your kids,” Taylor said.
