The stories we love best do live in us forever. ― J.K. Rowling

As we head into a new year, we're thanking you for the warm welcome of NewmarketToday since our Sept. 4 launch by highlighting some of the stories that we particularly loved telling you about.

Women still face many barriers in business, as this roundtable on pay equity shows, and that’s why it was so exciting to write about HER Place founder Andrea Wetzel’s leap of faith into small business ownership.

Wetzel has created a collaborative, coworking space geared to female entrepreneurs in downtown Newmarket that offers a place to work, network, learn, and share knowledge. She arranged the financing, scouted the location, and designed and renovated the space.

The impetus for launching the business was fairly simple: Wetzel was inspired by the coworking spaces in Toronto and wondered why that service wasn’t available in Newmarket.

That passion for creating space for female entrepreneurs to flourish is the reason for HER Place, and Wetzel believes that when women support each other, great things can happen.
