For the first time in three years, Santa Claus is returning to parade through Newmarket’s streets.

The town has put out a call for community groups and businesses take part in the parade, set to take place Nov. 19 along Eagle and Main streets. This will be the first time the parade has taken place since 2019.

“The Town of Newmarket is officially returning to our traditional parade to celebrate the lights, colour and cheer of the holiday season,” the municipality said.

The parade did not run the past two years due to the public health measures of the pandemic. Although some towns did hold parades in 2021 when capacity limits lifted, Newmarket opted not to, instead organizing a walk-through event.

The town is seeking organizations and businesses to take part in the parade with floats and walking groups. You can apply online until Nov. 4 at 4 p.m.

You can also take part as a volunteer to “help bring the parade to life,” the town said, whether as a costumed character or assisting as a parade marshal.

You can expect the parade to make its way through Newmarket Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
