Newmarket residents Erna and Susan Engel were surprised to find 14 blooms on one single Queen of the Night cactus on the night of Sept. 7.
The succulent that’s also known as the orchid cactus and produces sweet-smelling circular-shaped flowers with slim petals similar to water lilies, blooms only between dusk and dawn.
“It blooms annually and usually one to three blooms per plant,” the Engels said. “This year, we already had three blooms, but last night we were surprised with 14 blooms on one single plant. So we thought we would like to share some photos of this lovely flower.”
