Poll: Most think Tories would be better off if Poilievre left

An online poll reflects the coalition of sorts behind Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre: young(er), more male than not and less likely to have a university education.
2022 04 24 Pierre Poilievre (Linda Holmes)

Most readers in an online poll this week said that the federal Conservatives would do better in the next election with a leader who wasn't Pierre Poilievre.

Some 61 per cent of you felt this way, which is not much of a vote of confidence, but more than Justin Trudeau got last week, with 70 per cent saying that the Liberals would fare better in the next election if he made his departure.

(This is the second in a three-part series: next week we'll look at NDP leader Jagmeet Singh.)

We keep an eye out for regional differences - north-south, rural/urban - but none are that obvious here:

Women were much more inclined to ditch Poilievre, or think the Conservatives would be better off if they did:

Young people were more open to him, and their elders less so:

And people with university degrees were more inclined to ditch him:

We see here a coalition of sorts behind Poilievre: young(er), more male than not and less likely to have a university education, which has been reflected in other polls.

Some 4,205 of you participated.
