Newmarket sisters Manha and Laiba Yusuf are once again raising money for Inn From the Cold through poinsettia sales.

This December marks five years of the sisters' fundraising initiatives for various community initiatives.

The pair is selling red poinsettias of varying sizes, from $10 and up, and large fruit boxes, $60, with all proceeds going to support services at the Newmarket shelter for homeless individuals.

It is a cause Manha and Laiba have supported many times through different fundraising efforts, as well with their Stamp out Stigma for Mental Health campaign.

In total, with the support of the community, the young philanthropists have donated $52,000 in financial and in-kind donations, served more than 40,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, and given 900 backpacks full of school supplies. This year, their community contributions expanded to include free art lessons, tutoring, pet therapy and a community barbecue.

Everything they do is in an effort to  improve residents mental health, especially after COVID-19, and to support low income families, the girls said.

In the future, Manha and Laiba hope to receive grants to expand their services to other areas of York Region.

You can support the current fundraiser for Inn From the Cold by placing an order online. Poinsettias are available now through to Dec. 25, while fruit boxes will be delivered or picked up on Dec. 16, 17 or 18.
