The province’s Jan. 31 reopening means you can soon return to Newmarket’s municipal facilities and programs.

Pandemic-related shutdowns end Jan. 31, including at the Magna Centre, Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, youth skate park, Elman W. Campbell Museum, Newmarket Seniors’ Meeting Place, NewRoads Centre for Performing Arts, and Old Town Hall.

Meanwhile, programming scheduled for Feb. 1 will resume, though the town is not rescheduling cancelled January programs.

“The Town of Newmarket is very pleased to welcome back visitors to its facilities and resume programming,” the municipality said in a news release.

The province announced Jan. 20 it would lift some restrictions put in place to reduce the impact of the Omicron COVID-19 variant. Facilities will have a 50 per cent capacity limit, with a gathering limit of 10 indoors and 25 outdoors.

Several facilities will remain impacted by ongoing COVID-19 clinics. The Ray Twinney Recreation Complex will be open for programs, but also will still operate as a vaccination site by appointment only. The Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall is still being used as a vaccination clinic and will stay open for that only. The Recreation Youth Centre is also operating as a COVID-19, cold and flu clinic, with a separate entrance.

The town said the indoor pool at the Magna Centre would be closed for maintenance until March 5. It said it is doing the maintenance early amidst the pandemic-related closures to avoid having to close the pool in the spring for maintenance.

Facilities that did not close during the shutdowns will remain open, including outdoor amenities, the public library and the customer service centre at the town offices.

Although January programs are cancelled, the town said it intends to run spring and summer programming this year.

The province said it plans to lift more restrictions, such as capacity limits, in the coming months, tentatively reducing them further Feb. 21 and removing them entirely March 14.
