Newmarket Metro parking lot turns into drive-in theatre

There are still spots available for the free 11:30 p.m. showtime
2022 07 25 metro drive-in
A past Metro drive-in event in Orangeville.

The Metro parking lot at Davis Drive in Newmarket will be turned into a drive-in theatre on Friday night.

The event is part of the Metro Retro tour presented by Interac. The tour travels to 20 different Metro locations in Ontario, setting up a free drive-in theatre in the parking lot. It will be stopping at 1111 Davis on Friday, July 29.

On the big screen will be the movie My Girl, a 1991 coming-of-age story. There are two showtimes, first at 9:30 p.m. and then at 11:30 p.m.

But the action isn't just on the screen. The event will also feature a marketplace of local vendors. Some of the businesses at the Newmarket marketplace are Crazy D’s, a fizzy and gut-friendly probiotic soda, The Canadian Food Company and its sauces and spices, and Sweet N’ Nice Ice cream.

The night will also feature live music. The Newmarket drive-in will welcome Zenesoul, a Brampton-based artist born in Nigeria. Her music combines R&B with neo-soul and Afro-beats to create an original sound.

Donations for the Newmarket Food Pantry will be collected at the event. You can donate on-site with Interac debit but you can also donate online before the event.

The Metro drive-in event is free to attend but registration, which is done per vehicle, is required in advance and can be completed online. The first showing at 9:30 p.m. is already sold-out but spots are still available for the 11:30 p.m. show. Gates open at 8:30 p.m. for the first movie.
