Newmarket joins communities across nation for Parkinson SuperWalk

Local families and friends joined the national Sept. 10 event to help Parkinson Canada raise funds for research, care and advocacy

Newmarket joined 30 communities across the country Saturday for the return of the in-person Parkinson SuperWalk.

More than 50 people joined the local walk around Fairy Lake, even though the local effort was organized only about two weeks, said participant Judy Chambers.

To date, the 2022 event has raised more than $1 million — which is 67 per cent of its $1.5 million goal. In total, the annual event has raised than $40 million for research, support tools, and advocacy for people living with Parkinson’s, according to Parkinson Canada.

"Together, we have an immeasurable impact on the research being done, the services being offered, and the people being helped every day."

More than 1,600 individuals and 288 teams took part in this year's event to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson Canada.

"When you walk the SuperWalk or donate - whether it be money or your equally valuable time - you’re supporting Parkinson Canada in our quest to improve lives of people living with Parkinson’s and their care partners, and to ultimately find a cure for the disease affecting more than 100,000 Canadians," the organization states.
