An electrical fire in Newmarket was quickly extinguished on Friday, after a passing pedestrian called 911.

The call came in at 5:15 p.m. on June 3 for a fire at a house on Manchester Drive, north of London Road, according to the Central York Fire Services incident report.

Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the garage. Within an hour, the fire had been put out.

Damage was limited to the garage and the residents are able to remain in the home. There were no injuries.

Traffic on Manchester was controlled during the fire, but there is no ongoing community impact.

CYFS deployed four firetrucks and one command vehicle, 16 firefighters and one chief officer. York Regional Police, York Paramedic Services, and the utility companies also attended.
