Newmarket charities surprised by cash gift from The Renoir residents

Blue Door, Inn from the Cold, and Rose of Sharon Services for Young Mothers are all benefactors of Christmas bazaar donations

Three Newmarket charities are each $1,500 richer, thanks to the generosity of The Renoir retirement home residents.

Members of the residents’ council charity committee yesterday presented the proceeds of its Christmas bazaar to representatives of Blue Door Shelters, Rose of Sharon Services for Young Mothers, and Inn from the Cold, which could not attend.

Residents Jim and Mary Lou Stanton, June Benson, and council president Phyllis Savoy were on hand to deliver the gifts in the residence lobby on Doak Lane.

Rose of Sharon executive director Anna Pavan, and fund development manager Karen Warner, weren't aware of the donation amount in the envelope.

“That is amazing,” Pavan said.

Blue Door office manager Barb Latour expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization, which hasn’t yet decided how it will use the funds.

Resident Benson had an extra special gift for the Rose of Sharon. She and members of the residents' knitting club made several sets of baby hats and booties for Rose of Sharon clients.

“This is so wonderful,” said Warner.
