Malfunctioning equipment cause of fire on Harry Walker Parkway

A malfunctioning piece of equipment was the cause of an industrial fire on Harry Walker Parkway in Newmarket on Thursday evening.

The fire was contained in a ventilation stack and there were no injuries, according to Central York Fire Services.

Central York Fire Services responded to the incident at 6:24 p.m. Feb. 8 where crews encountered smoke and flames from a rooftop unit. 

The fire was isolated to a piece of equipment within a ventilation stack in the facility and was extinguished by the fire crews and facility’s fire suppression system, said Central York Fire Services.

As a result of the fire, Stellar Drive and Harry Walker Parkway had limited access and residents were advised to avoid the area during the incident. 

Five fire trucks and one one command vehicle were deployed to the scene with 17 firefighters and one platoon chief, according to Central York Fire Services.
