Just ahead of Santa, York Region's paramedics make special Christmas Eve delivery (7 photos)

You might call them Santa's emergency helpers.

For the 15th consecutive year, York Region Paramedic Services made a special delivery on Christmas Eve.

New, donated toys and blankets were dropped off to children and seniors staying at the region’s local hospitals, Southlake Regional Health Centre, Mackenzie Health and Markham Stouffville Hospital.

The stuffed animals are donated by Ganz Inc., a wholesale gift and toy distributor based in Vaughan. The blankets are either handmade or purchased by paramedics and their families.

Gift labels are personally sewn onto each blanket by the friends and family of Helen Galanis, the lead paramedic who has championed this initiative for 12 years.
