NEWS RELEASE

Blue Door is excited to partner with the Aurora, Bradford, and Newmarket Home Depot Canada locations once again this year for The Orange Door Project campaign.

Funds raised this winter are in support of Blue Door’s Emergency Housing Program, Kevin’s Place. This program provides support for 12 male youth per night aged 16 to 26. Supports include housing placement, housing retention, and homelessness prevention in York Region.

The Orange Door Project campaign is on now until Dec. 24, 2021. The Home Depot Canada Foundation is committed to helping prevent and end youth homelessness in Canada. One in five Canadians experiencing homelessness are youth, making youth homelessness one of the most urgent social issues facing Canadians today.

Through The Orange Door Project campaign, The Home Depot Canada Foundation has pledged $50 million by the end of 2022 to improve housing options, support life-skills development programs, and invest in research that ensures funding is directed to the most effective solutions designed to help youth build brighter futures.

Studies suggest the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionally affected our community's most vulnerable, 57 per cent of youth experiencing homelessness report a challenge accessing basic needs including food and emergency housing. Specific programming is needed to address these complex challenges and help youth find support, employment, and stable housing.

“Thank you, Blue Door Kevin’s Place in Newmarket! You instantly made me feel welcomed and safe in a supportive and encouraging environment. I cannot thank you enough for helping me get my life and other’s lives back on track and ready for a better life,” says Aaron, Kevin’s Place Youth Client.

Customers can donate $2 in store in Newmarket, Aurora and Bradford or select those stores online at orangedoorproject.ca and 100 per cent of the funds will benefit Blue Door.
