It is with great pleasure that the Very Useful Theatre Company announces the play selections to be featured in the 2022 Newmarket International Festival of One Act Plays.

The prestigious, annual international festival, which is running from Sept. 8 to 11 with an 8 p.m. start time, features world premieres and draws one-act play entries from playwrights across the English-speaking globe. This year the festival received over 80 entries from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and across the U.S. — including some from past contributors such as Cary Pepper, and Jim Geoghan, who is well known for his comedies and is co-creator of Disney T.V.'s The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

Jim has been contributing supporter since the festival's inception in 2017. The NIFOAP will again showcase young talent, this year in our added Sunday matinee show will feature an additional short play from a series of youth theatre workshops, which will be presented at the direction of the very talented, Kira Rosenbloom.

“It was not an easy process,” conceded selection committee chair and winner of the best director award in last year's festival, Bruce Williamson. “But in the end, we think we've chosen an excellent selection of plays that will offer patrons a most entertaining night out.”

Once again, the NIFOAP will be held at the beautiful Newmarket Old Town Hall, and will be performed before both a live and live-stream audience. Each evening consists of three one-act plays. There will be two shorter plays of 10 to 20 minutes each, followed by a short intermission, and concluding with a 30 to 50-minute play.

The Sunday daytime matinee VUTC Youth Company show will follow a similar format.
