Dec. 2 proclaimed as Huron Heights Warriors Football Day

The Huron Heights Warriors senior football team came out to play at Newmarket council Monday night and left with Dec. 2, 2019 being proclaimed Huron Heights Warriors Football Day by Mayor John Taylor in honour of the team’s massive accomplishments this season.

“Perhaps no team in Newmarket’s history has had such exceptional ongoing achievements to this level,” Taylor said before reading the proclamation to a packed council chambers that included the Warriors team members, coaches, volunteers, parents, booster club, and club officials.

“I think it’s important to take a pause and recognize this football club, not only for the achievement that these young men have made this year in the 2019 season, which is truly incredible, but it’s also important to stop and recognize that this club over its years, this franchise, had extraordinary achievements,” Taylor said.

The Huron Heights Warriors senior football team are the 2019 OFSAA Western Bowl Champions (W London’s A.B. Lucas 41-19), are the only team in its history to go 12-0 in a season, and the only team in Canada to play and win 12 games in 2019.

“Be it resolved that I hereby proclaim Dec. 2, 2019, be recognized as Huron Heights Warriors Football Day in honour of the outstanding season of the senior team and making us all proud,” Taylor said.
