For anyone who is hungry, lonely, or in need of a little extra Christmas cheer, you're invited to the community dinner at Cachet Supper Club on Christmas Day.

Jennifer McLachlan of Cachet and Deb Hatton of Deb's Dips are partnering to host the free dinner on Dec. 25.

They have done similar meals on Thanksgiving for several years now, but Hatton said they decided to do one this Christmas.

"Christmas can be really tough for a lot of people," she said in a video online.

Hatton said she lost a dear friend a couple of years ago whose birthday was Christmas Day and the holidays have been tough for her since then.

"I know that there's so many people out there that are alone and are sad and the holidays can be incredibly difficult, so I think this is what I want to do," she said.

Between 4 and 6 p.m., all are welcome to come to Cachet at 500 Water St. There will be a free turkey dinner, live music entertainment and people to talk with and share a holiday meal and some conversation.

"We will be there and it will be fun," Hatton said.

They are also looking for volunteers and donations. While she said they have had lots of people to help out in the kitchen or with preparations, she will always welcome anyone who wants to come and be a friendly face to provide some company for the folks coming in.

"I think the world right now can be really overwhelming and I ask myself often 'what can I do, what can I do, how can I change things?' Maybe this is where it starts. Maybe it just starts at the grassroots level, just people helping people. Just a simple act of kindness," she said.

Hatton said the meal is also serving the volunteers in a way because some of the people coming in to help have experienced their own loss or are going through a tough time and this offers a way to connect with others while giving back this holiday season.

Anyone who is interested in donating or volunteering can contact Hatton at [email protected] or at 905-717-1735.
