The Newmarket Public Library is holding a repair café for broken appliances, toys, jewelry and more on April 30.

The event connects residents with broken items with volunteer fixers in partnership with NewMakeIt. You can bring your small appliances, clothing, toys, bikes, and electronics that are an need of a little TLC.

While there is no guarantee they will be repaired, fixers will give it their best shot and it's completely free.

However,  there is a list of items that can't be fixed, including sewing machines, broken zippers, hems and alterations, gas-powered machinery, items containing hazardous waste, large kitchen appliances, and single serve coffee machines. Fixers are also able to refuse any repair at their own discretion.

The goal of the repair café is to give a second chance to items instead of throwing them away. It also provides an opportunity to teach people how to repair their own items moving forward.

There are a few rules that guests must follow for this event. You can only bring one item and you must bring any required repair parts with you. Visitors are also responsible for tidying and removing any parts or broken objects that could not be fixed.

You must also register for a time slot in advance. Booking is done online through the library website but times are limited and are already filling up fast.

The 11 and 11:30 a.m. slots are both fully booked but you can sign up now for the noon, 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., or 2:30 p.m. slots. Once all registration slots have been booked you can join the waitlist for any of the times in the event that another visitor cancels.
