If you have any items at home in need of a little TLC, you can now register to bring it to Newmarket Public Library’s Repair Café at no cost.
Volunteer fixers will be on hand on Saturday, Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will try their hand at repairing items, in the hopes of reducing the number of small appliances and other items that get thrown away, including jewelry, clothing, toys, bikes, electronics and small appliances.
However, there is a list of items the fixers will not be accepting for repairs, including sewing machines, broken zippers, hems and alterations, gas-powered machinery like chainsaws or snowblowers, items containing hazardous waste, large kitchen appliances and single-serve coffee machines like Keurig or Nespresso.
The fixers may decline to repair certain objects at their own discretion.
Newmarket Public Library also states that visitors bringing items to be repaired are doing so at their own risk, as there is no guarantee repairs will be able to be carried out and the fixers are not liable if the item doesn’t work later.
You are required to bring any new parts needed for the repairs with you to the event and you must also tidy and remove any items that can’t be repaired.
Visitors are allowed to bring one other person with them, but can only bring one item to be repaired per registered participant.
Space is limited and you must register ahead of time to attend the Repair Café. Registration is now open on the library’s website.
Participants must show proof of full vaccination to take part.
