CFUW Aurora/Newmarket October Monthly Meeting

Tuesday Oct. 22, 2019 7 to 9 p.m.

CFUW Aurora/Newmarket is a women's organization engaged in empowering women’s lives through friendship, education, outreach and advocacy. All women in York Region are welcome at our October monthly meeting with Zarmina Nekzai speaking on One Woman’s Journey from Afghanistan.

Zarmina Nekzai is recognized for building an outdoor ice hockey rink for girls in Kabul in a quest to fight for women’s rights and gender equality. The joy that she witnessed at the hockey rink inspired her to write a book, Hockey Girls of Kabul. She continues to feel the need to do more to help women and girls across the world who feel as though they have been left behind.

Zarmina recognizes that she is now “privileged to be living in a country where access to education sets the foundation for community life, where inclusion and protection from discrimination are valued and where gender equality and empowering women and girls is a priority and continuous mission.”

Zarmina will tell the story of her journey from Afghanistan and share her Big Dream for the future. Zarmina lives is Barrie and is a member of CFUW Aurora/Newmarket.
