Restaurants in Aurora and Georgina were charged for public health violations by York Region inspectors last week.
Millstone Rice Rolls in Aurora, C6 - 16025 Bayview Ave., was charged July 19 for maintaining a food premise in a manner adversely affecting sanitary operation, according to the report for inspections made July 17 to 23 by York Region Community and Health Services, health protection division.
Items noted as not in compliance included food handlers not demonstrating proper food hygiene practices to prevent contamination and hand washing stations being adequately equipped and accessible. Those issues stemmed from the restaurant’s failure to ensure food handlers wear clean outer garments and failure to maintain hand washing stations.
Food handler education was conducted, and an acceptable temporary measure was put in place, according to the report.
Shoreland Bar & Restaurant in Georgina, 534 Lake Dr. S, was charged July 20 during a re-inspection for storing potentially hazardous foods at internal temperature between 4°C and 60°C, according to the report.
Initially inspected July 17, items found to be not in compliance included: failure to provide thermometer in refrigeration equipment; failure to ensure facility surface cleaned as necessary; failure to adjust or repair malfunctioning cooler; failure to maintain records of pest control measures taken; failure to remove garbage/liquid waste when necessary to maintain sanitary condition; failure to maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition.
At the re-inspection, it was noted that the restaurant was not in compliance with having adequate protection against the entrance of pests, and was charged for not storing potentially hazardous foods at the correct internal temperature.
Food handler education was carried out on site.
