The fourth annual Hoops Charity Basketball Tournament in support of YouthSpeak is happening in Newmarket this weekend.

Eight teams will be taking to the basketball courts by Terry Fox Public School on Sawmill Valley Drive on June 3.

The Hoops tournament features players aged 13 to 17. Each team will have a chance to play at least three games. There will be pizza, prizes, and entertainment.

"We make it a really kind of fun and family-oriented day," said Una Wright, founder of YouthSpeak.

The organization provides youth-led interactive presentations, featuring youth who have lived experience with mental health, inclusion and other youth-related issues.

Wright said the money raised through this tournament will support the training for the youth presenters and delivery of the programs.

All eight team spots are currently filled by Wright said people could still register to be put on a waitlist in the event of a last minute drop-out or cancellation.

Members of the community are invited to come cheer on the players, enjoy the entertainment and spend a day with the family supporting YouthSpeak.

The event, sponsored by Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Centre, runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
