25-year-old Newmarket man youngest to die with COVID-19 in York Region

A 25-year-old Newmarket man is the youngest resident to die with COVID-19 in York Region.

The man passed away Saturday, May 8 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket with a case acquired through local transmission.

His symptom onset was March 26, with the positive test confirming the virus on April 9, according to York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

The additional COVID related fatality brings Newmarket's pandemic death toll to 48, with the 47th death reported Wednesday.

A 67-year-old Newmarket man passed away with local transmission case Friday, May 7 at Southlake.
