LETTER: Vaccinations should be required for active sports at Newmarket seniors centre

Rethink the decision that would put some seniors at risk of being exposed to COVID-19, letter writer urges

**************************

I have just read the guidelines for reopening the Newmarket seniors centre and I must say that I am dismayed and somewhat angry.

The guidelines state that participants in active sports such as badminton are not required to be vaccinated. We always play badminton with a partner. Masks are not worn and sometimes you come in very close contact with that partner. That could pose a serious risk to one party if the other party has refused to be vaccinated.

What happened to all the hype about safety for our population and therefore the need for all to get vaccinated? Was this all for nought or another instance of doublespeak coming out of the mouths of politicians?

I hope you will look closely at this matter and change this obviously risky and unsafe policy decision.
