The 30-minute maximum temporary parking restriction in Newmarket’s downtown shopping and dining district to make it easier for curbside pickup and delivery is set to expire tomorrow, June 8.

Council is expected to decide at its virtual meeting on the same day if and for how long it will extend the original 30-day emergency order that came into force on May 9.

The usual two-hour parking limit on Main Street South, at sections that span Davis Drive to Water Street, was suspended as part of the town’s efforts to support struggling local merchants during the coronavirus crisis.

The decision on parking comes at the same time as Newmarket's elected officials consider a raft of measures to help restaurants, bars, cafes, and retailers boost their operations, including waiving patio licensing fees, allowing expanded and new patios, extended hours, and pedestrian zones on Main Street.

The special council meeting takes place virtually on Monday, June 8 at 1 p.m. The live stream will be posted here.

You can read the full agenda here.

Citizens who would like to address council on items that appear on the agenda can provide comments in writing no later than 11 a.m. that day via email to [email protected]

If you’d like to join the live meeting using the town's videoconferencing software and verbally provide comments over video or telephone, you must email [email protected] no later than the end of day Sunday, June 7 and be available to test your connection on Monday, June 8.
