The August 31, 2020 deadline is approaching for Ontario parents who wish to apply for funding for the cost of keeping their children at home because of the shutdown of schools earlier this year, or the shutdown of local daycare centres.

The one time funding option was announced back in April by the Doug Ford government and is available until the end of this month.  The funding can provide $200 for each child aged up to 12 years, and $250 for each child aged up to 21 with special needs.

There is no income cap on eligibility. Regardless of how much money you earn, you can qualify.

At the time of the announcement, the government said the funding was to help parents with the costs of work books, educational apps, educational subscription services, movies and other tools to support learning at home.

The Ontario government website encourages parents to apply online either from their home computer or from a public access computer such as at a public library.

Parents are encouraged to gather banking information, school board and daycare information ahead of time to speed up the process, said the Ontario government website.
